Precinct Election Officials - Temporary
This is a temporary position. Workers are needed for the 2012 General Election to be held on November 6, 2012. Precinct election officials are currently paid $7.25 per hour.
FOLLOWING ARE THE REQUIREMENTS:
- Registered to vote in Des Moines County
- Be affiliated with the Republican or Democratic Party, although a few people not affiliated with either party may be appointed
- Cannot be closely related to any opposed candidate on the ballot
- Have energy and stamina (up to 16 hour days - bring your own meals and snacks)
- Have good reading and listening skills (you cannot express your opinion to the voters)
- Enjoy people and service to others
- Experienced in using a computer
- Willing to attend a training class
- Willing to accept a small payment for a BIG service
WHAT DOES A PRECINCT ELECTION OFFICIAL DO?
The duties in each precinct are shared among the officials working at the precinct for a particular election. The responsibilities include:
- Report to polling location one hour before opening time to set up the polling place before the polls open - Polling locations are open from 7AM to 9PM
- Set up the voting equipment
- Verify that persons are qualified to vote using computerized Precinct Atlas Program
- Register new persons to vote using computerized Precinct Atlas Program
- Operate election equipment and computers that tabulate votes, verify voter qualifications, and assist disabled voters to cast ballots
- Complete paperwork, clean up and close the polling area
