PROPERTY TAXES 101 & COUNTY BUDGETS
An Interactive Educational Training Presentation

“Rollbacks, Equalization Orders, Levy Rates, Levy Dollars, Taxable Value vs. Assessed Value, Agland vs. Residential vs. Commercial, Homestead Credit, Family Farm Credit, TIF…”

We’ve all heard these phrases and know they affect our property taxes, but does the Iowa Property Tax System have you confused and wondering how it all works?

Would you like to understand exactly how property is assessed, how taxable values are calculated, what a Rollback or Equalization Order is and how the state calculates those figures, or would you like to know what TIF is and how it affects your taxes?

Would you like to understand how the county levy rate is calculated, how growth in one part of the state can affect values in another part of the state, or how a county budget ties into all of this?

NOW YOUR QUESTIONS CAN BE ANSWERED!!!

UPDATE! The Property Taxes 101 Education Presentation held on Monday ~ May 11, 2009 at the Burlington Memorial Auditorium was a huge success! There were nearly 100 people in attendance, including government officials from: Des Moines County, Lee County, Louisa County, Henry County, Davis County, Wapello County, Jasper County, Van Buren County, Appanoose County, the cities of Burlington, West Burlington, and Mediapolis, as well as school officials from Mediapolis, Burlington, and West Burlington, and several citizens of Des Moines County. Many questions were asked and answered during the presentation regarding the Iowa Property Tax System. Thank-you to everyone who attended and participated in this event!
